As summer passes by with a blend of tropical heat and heavy showers, it brings a unique opportunity for reflection. This season always offers me a much-needed pause—not just to enjoy a break from work and spend quality time with my family, but also to step back and think about the path ahead, both personally and professionally.

As a solopreneur, these quieter months are invaluable. They allow me the time to ask myself important questions: What are my goals for the coming months and next year? How do I want to develop personally, and where should I innovate? Which activities fuel my energy, and which commitments should I consider letting go? These reflections are not just about work; they’re about aligning my actions with what truly matters.

Navigating the challenges of solopreneurship also means I’m often on my own to make these decisions. It requires a lot of self-reflection—listening to both my mind and body, developing strategies, and staying focused. I find myself considering the potential impact of our new government’s plans for reduced investments in research and in prevention. Should I adapt my practices to stay compliant with the Dutch DBA law for solopreneurs? These are all crucial issues to think over.

But contemplation alone isn’t enough. As Epictetus wisely reminds us, “First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do.” This quote guides me to take action, accept that things might not always go as planned, and most importantly, never give up. I am looking forward to the second half of 2024, with courage and full of energy.
