It all started back in 2002, with my first interview for a research manager position. After just 30 minutes, I walked out of the room—and got the job. The role was brand new. Supporting a young department head in applying for European research funding at the start of FP6. We submitted two collaborative proposals. Both got funded, and I found myself stepping into the role of project manager.
This marked the beginning of my career as a research manager. Over the years, I evolved into a well-rounded pre- and post-award research manager. I gained expertise in Dutch and European funding programs. From NWO and ZonMW to FP6, FP7, Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, supporting researchers to apply for personal and collaborative grants. Along the way, I discovered my passion for sharing my knowledge, offering advice, and providing training to others in the field.
Next month, I will celebrate three years as a solopreneur research manager at DrEAMS Funding Consultancy. I am grateful for this journey and still enjoy every single day of it!
